Stress and the Silly Season - How Can Earthing Help?

How Earthing can help reduce your stress

The Christmas season can be a very stressful time for many of us and it’s hard to understand as it’s portrayed as a joyous and happy time.  It certainly can be happy and fun, however, we usually change our habits around this time as well – we attend more social and family events, we shop more, we tend to eat different foods or more of them, we stay out later, we may forego our exercise and meditation routines, we drink more and our usual sleep routine is disrupted to name a few.  So we tend to worry more, be anxious and sometimes fearful trying keep up with it all.  All these extra stresses cause the sneaky hormone cortisol to be released from the adrenal glands and cortisol can be very destructive to your health.   This could be why we can sometimes feel like the bah humbug and not the fairy queen at this time of the year.  So how does Earthing fit in……….

Of the two stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, cortisol is sneaky because you don’t know it’s being released.  Adrenalin, which is the fight or flight hormone, will make itself known by raising your heart rate, tensing your muscles and releasing a swarm of butterflies into your tummy.  Regardless of how bad adrenaline makes you feel, it’s the cortisol that’s more destructive to your health.

If your stress is continual and you have long term levels of cortisol this could contribute to illnesses such as dementia, diabetes, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, lowered immunity, hormonal problems, sleep disorders, being overweight and mood disorders.
By Earthing yourself on a regular basis such as sleeping Earthed and working Earthed or walking barefoot on the earth we can greatly help our cortisol levels to remain in a balanced state.  It has been shown that Earthing during sleep resynchronizes cortisol secretion more in alignment with its natural, normal rhythm – highest at 8.00am and lowest at midnight.  This can result in improved sleep along with reduced pain, stress and anxiety.

Earthing alone is not a miracle cure for chronic stress and it must go hand in hand with other practices such as meditation, relaxation, good diet, etc., however, for mild stress Earthing certainly can keep your body and mind more balanced and able to cope.

So this festive season get out to our beautiful beaches and frolic barefoot during the day, sleep Earthed at night and if you can work
Earthed during the day and hopefully you will come out of the silly season in good health, less stressed and ready to start the New Year with vitality and a smile!

Merry Christmas!
